Irish Dance

                Irish dance is a dance which is not very well known by people because it is quite difficult to practice. It's inspired by Druids who danced during various rites. When the Celtics came to Ireland they influenced Irish art.
   

 The Posture 

To dance like Irish people, you need to have the Irish attitude. Indeed, Traditional Irish Dance needs some tips:you should....

                                            -Keep you body erect,    
                                            -Your arms are streched along the body  
                                            -Clench your fist            
                                            -Not be tense        
                                            -Move your feet to the rythme of the music





Costumes

In Ireland, there are no real traditional costumes. Irish costumes are those used in competition.
They were invented in the United States.
  • For Girls : a stiff coton dress, poodle socks, a curly wig, often a crown oe a tiara.
  • For Boys: a white shirt, black pants (or a kilt), a jacket and a tie.


Competitions

Competitions are organised during the "feis", it is a festival. There are local, national and international competitions. You can also find competitions of music and craft during this event.
The dances are divided by ages and experiences. It lasts one week and the dancers are scored based on their technique. Dancers can choose the music and the style of their own dance.
